Latch Dysfunction/Feeding Difficulties

Our most common complaint from new families is feeding difficulty. While a lactation consultant is an excellent first stop, chiropractors can help a lot with the biomechanics of latch from the infant’s side.
We assess the muscles of the jaw and tongue to ensure they are not too tight. We evaluate the movement of the tongue and the efficiency of their latch and seal. We offer small, gentle mobilizations and soft tissue to improve babe’s latch. Neck range of motion is essential for anyone but especially for our breast feeding babies; if they cannot turn both directions with ease, they likely will not be able to successfully breast feed on both sides.
